They didn’t necessarily post the all-time San Diego County best in their event, or even their best, but 62 individuals have won 80 state track championships since the first meet in 1915.
Pole Vaulter Bill Miller of San Diego, jumper Dokie Wiliams of El Camino, and weight specialist Darius Savage of Morse stand out as triple winners.
Miller took his titles in 1927, ’28, and ’29. Williams won the triple jump in 1977 and ’78 and the long jump in 1978. Savage won the shot put in 2006 and the discus in 2005 and ’06.
There have been numerous double winners, the most recent being Madison’s Kenon Christon, who won both sprints in 2019.
A father-son combination was Clairemont’s Dale Fleet, who won the two-mile in 1972. Mac of University City won the mile in 2009.
There has been one brother-sister combination. Kristin Fahy of La Costa Canyon won the 3200-meter run in 2019. Darren Fahy took the 1600 meters in 2012.

By the way, I believe Rancho Buena Vista senior (and section record-holder) Von Ware captured the California State triple jump crown back in 1994.
This is Tracy Smith also from Rancho Buena Vista. Yeah I notice a lot of human error in these records almost lazy.. Example I ran 14.02 HH at the Arcadia invite in Walnut…That section in the books no record????? Yes you are Correct about my friend Von. I was class of 1997
Tracy, I checked with Steve Brand, who coordinates the best marks list. He will check to see if he missed, out of the thousand-plus marks has on his list, but Steve cautions that he doesn’t include wind-aided marks. The Arcadia meet was at Arcadia. Walnut is the site of Mt. San Antonio and the meet that is held there.
Tracy, Steve Brand took over compiling track and field marks after I moved on from that in the 1970s.
This is the message Steve Brand sent to me about your high hurdles achievement:
“I looked at athletic.net for school lists and the RBV all-time list shows Devon
Alvarado No. 1 and Tracy Smith No. 2 at 14.48. Nowhere is 14.02 mentioned.
“I think he (Tracy) is legit because of his times but not 14.02 legit. Never did find 1997 Arcadia Invitational results–even on the Arcadia Invite web page which stops at like the year 2000.”
It sounds to me that you might have been talking about the Mt. Sac track meet, which is held in Walnut. Steve does not list wind-aided marks.
Matt: Sorry for the late response. I’ll mention this to Steve Brand. Ware won it at 50 feet, 6 inches.
