2016: The Grandkids

We’ve been idle since the state high school track meet and probably won’t be posting much for the next month, as our two grandsons, 13 and 12, from Connecticut have made their annual invasion.

For Susie and me, this represents  4-5 weeks of never-ending activity, a veritable jailbreak every day.  It seems like we are training with the SEALs.

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The boys met us in Las Vegas on June 21.  From there came a tour of Hoover Dam, a visit to the magnificent meteor crater near Winslow, Az., and a day at the Grand Canyon.

It’s not all swimming pools and movies.  Some culture is added.

Oh, I’d better not forget.  Happy 48th anniversary today to my beautiful bride.

  1. A Happy Anniversary to the both of you. A look at all the places you haven’t been for a while; Palomar observatory, Safari Park, Julian, Silver Strand, Hotel Del, Coronado Beach, Point Loma National Monument , SD Zoo, Mission Beach, La Jolla Cove, Mt Soledad, Mission Bay, Padres game, Tijuana and Ensenada, SD Bay boat excursion .
Enough ? You will have fun whatever you do. Cheers, IW

  2. Rick … If you would like to learn about the current status of Kenny Graham (Samohi, WSU, SD Chargers, et al., Lois Henry writing for the Bakersfield Californian is currently doing a series of articles that you will find interesting. Four to date beginning on May 31, 2016. You can access them by going to lhenry@bakersfield.com or just typing in her name with reference to Kenny Graham.

Congratulations on your 48th anniversary … we just celebrated our 51st. Keep up the great work … Tebb Kusserow, Santa Monica, CA

    1. Tebb, thanks for pointing to the stories about Kenny Graham. I remember Kenny as a voluble guy who hit hard and was tough. The writer’s articles don’t paint a pretty picture, but there’s something quaint about Kenny’s situation. He doesn’t appear too worried or unhappy. Maybe that’s good. I must say good job on finally finding Kenny and that I should have directed you in the beginning to Todd Tobias, who has become the definitive Chargers historian.

For other readers, I point out that Tebb Kusserrow was a teammate of Kenny’s and played for Santa Monica against Sweetwater in the 1958 Southern California playoff semifinals, made all-CIF in 1960, and went on to a long, successful educational and coaching career at his alma mater.
