Almost all divisions met seeding expectations, without even a “last second thriller”, but there were some surprises.
Division IV No. 4 Escondido Charter upset No. 1 La Jolla. Power ratings notwithstanding, the White Tigers were David in a Goliath moment, with enrollments of 765 to 1,406, respectively. No. 6 Santa Fe Christian also topped 2 High Tech San Diego (1,075 student body versus. 500).
The Open division final will match 1 Mission Hills versus 2 La Jolla Country Day, Max Preps’ state number 14 and 18 squads.
Coach Terry Bamford’s Lady Torreys seek to avenge an early season, 62-47 loss to Mission Hills. It figures to be an uphill battle. The Lady Grizzlies are favored.
